M. Butterfly PosterIn this project I was assigned to chose a play and create a poster for it. I had a hard time trying to figure out a play to choose because I haven’t seen many interesting plays that I would like to create a poster for. I came across the play M. Butterfly and I really enjoyed the plot line and the whole theme of the play. The play revolves around an French spy who visits a Chinese opera and falls in-love with an actress in the opera. His lover turns out to be an undercover spy from China, who is secretly a man. When going about designing my poster I wanted to portray this secret subliminally. I accomplished this by placing a half male half female butterfly on the poster. I wanted to make the poster very simple with the writers name in Chinese characters in the top left and a simple M. set in Didot with the main focal point being the butterfly.
